Guild Wars 2 PvP Details Revealed

At Gamescom in Germany ArenaNet revealed the first tidbits about PvP style and types in Guild Wars 2! They made it clear that they were catering PvP modes towards both the casual and hardcore when designing the match making system.

Casual players will be able to jump in and out of matches with ease in Guild Wars 2 Gold. This is being coined as Hot Join PvP. Matches can exist from as few as 1v1 to as many as 10v10 and the match making system is able to adjust the number of participants to ensure that numbers remain equal on both sides.

Players will be able to browse through a large list of games occurring throughout all of the Guild Wars servers and filter them based on server name or friends list. Once inside of a game, you will fight until the victory condition is obtained and then be whisked off to a new map where teams can be reselected and battle begins anew! This encourages community building as you won’t just be stuck fighting with randoms every game and can eventually learn to look for certain people to join with easily and efficiently.

Hardcore players looking for competition will be happy with the league system in place for Guild Wars 2 Gold. The most basic form of this is Pickup Tournaments. These consist of 8 teams and function on a single loss elimination premises. Winners in these tournaments earn qualifier points that can be used to gain access to monthly tournaments. Winners of the monthly tournaments will then be pitted against each other at the yearly tournament for ultimate bragging rights!

For hardcore players looking to organize their own community events, player-run tournaments also exist. In these a game master can set map choices, team sizes, and many other features to make for unique and organized but customized tournament settings.

Returning players from Guild Wars 1 will be glad to hear that they can now transfer their PvE character into the PvP world, obtaining max level as well as all skills they have unlocked, without having to create a new PvP only character for each match. This will help with community building since personas will be much easier to create when everyone is using the same IGN for both PvE and PvP. Of course a starter template of basic skills will exist for new comers to allow you to jump straight into the fray without having to earn the right through PvE.
