There're a total of 14 occupations available to any character and you will be able to craft your own potions and food, learn how to fish, become an adept socialite that gains access to hidden quests, see the future through the use of astrology, Forsaken World Gold and even craft your own weapons and armor.

It should be noted that 2 occupations are learned automatically when reaching certain level. You will automatically get socializing ability at level 20. Though the ability won't benefit you in battle, it allows you to get hidden quests from NPCs. At level 30 you automatically learn another occupation - explorer. Explorer ability allows you to go into "observing" status and get additional info in exploration.

The rest occupations can be learned from NPCs by consuming Job Points. You can gain Job Points by completing the main quest line sections. There's no limitation on occupations learning and you may be able to learn all the 14 jobs as you keep leveling up and completing main quests. But at low level, you'd better choose the professions that you are most interested in, Forsaken World Gold and also the ones that you feel will be most helpful for your class or playstyle. For example, alchemy (produces potions) and botany (crafts materials) is a good pair while fishing and cooking is a good match.
