Last time (DC Universe Online beta review part 1), I explained game controls and character capabilities. Now, I will give an introduction to the game in other aspects, like quests and instances. Certainly, I will describe my favorite PVP in detail as well as sort out the game's weaknesses for your reference. Whether to play it, you have your choice!
In DCUO, you have to choose a faction when creating your character, and unfold storyline quests following your main character (Batman or Joker) as soon as you have joined in the Hero Faction or Villian Faction.
In terms of storyline quests, DC Universe Online Gold have made radical and bold innovations. Starting from low levels, Hero Faction and Villian Faction have many opposite quests in the same area. For example, in a certain area, players from the Hero Faction must help cops arrest rogues in the street, while those from the Villian Faction are required to smash cops and help gangsters occupy streets. Both PVE and PVE servers are available in the game. If both sides don't activate the PVP mode on a PVE server, the side that attains the NPC's goal first will win. However, if it is a PVP server, things will become more marvelous. It can be easily seen that NPCs and players from both factions are going at each other fiercely. Perhaps, they have battled for many times since they were newbies, because their quests are entangled together. It is even hard not to come across one another, which encourages players to get involved in the tension between the two factions to some extent.
DCUO's instance quests are not disappointing from the beginning. Except tutorial quests, each instance quest led by the main storyline or alert situations comprises several steps, and in addition to non-stop killing, players need to think hard and find solutions in many cases. Take Riddler's storyline instance as an example, players cannot pass through it until they figure out its riddles. Regardless of Hero Bosses or Villian Bosses players encounter from the low-level main storyline, they can fully enjoy fast-paced and changing combats within a very short time and fight together with hero NPCs.
If acting as Batman, the player will meet the scarecrow first (game designers have worked out a series of combat modes according to the Scarecrow's abilities and characteristics). That's the reason why players can always derive pleasure from combats. What's more, at the end of each instance, a succession of original DC comics will be shown with the aim of telling the whole story of the incident or giving an account of character's life. And as is the case with standalone games, the cartoon storyline you have unlocked can be freely reviewed and enjoyed again and again in the database.
